Tour of America's Dairyland

We are a mountain biking family, but, once a year, there is a series of road races that comes practically out our front door.  Ted decided to take part in the downtown race and the kids were excited to be part of the kiddie parade.  We've had a long stretch of really hot weather here and the day of the race was no exception.  The temperature was in the 90s, but it didn't stop the racers from averaging 28.5 mph.  Ted hung on until two laps to go when the heat was just too much to keep up with that speed.

The kids had a blast watching him race though.  Every time he flew past us, they would say, "Yay bikes!  Oh!  That's daddy!  He fast!" and whenever they saw his friend, Nick, fly past wearing the same jersey, they said, "That's daddy's friend! He fast too!"  Sometimes it's more fun to watch their excitement and reactions than the race itself!

By the start of the kiddie parade, however, the excitement had worn down a little because of the heat.  Poor Almanzo was overheated and didn't want anything to do with his bike.  He walked and whined while daddy carried his bike and then begged daddy to carry him back to the car.  Valerie wasn't too impressed either, because she was expecting a race just like the WORS kids' races.  At the end, she looked at me and said, "No!  I'm not done!  I want to race!"
